Overall Description:
Knowledge gap exists in understanding optimal management strategies for patients who suffer from clinically severe obesity and concomitant foregut disease including paraesophageal hernia, esophageal motility disorders and gastroesophageal reflux disease. To address this knowledge gap, the directors of the SAGES/Foregut session have assembled faculty to discuss the most pertinent aspects of preoperative evaluation, treatment options, as well as postoperative surveillance, for patients with these combinations of foregut disease.
Learning Objectives:
- Determine surgical reconstructive options for patients with concomitant symptomatic paraesophageal hernia and clinically severe obesity.
- Evaluation and medical/endoscopic/surgical treatment of esophageal hypertensive motility disorders following bariatric surgery.
- Evaluation and surgical management of patients with recurrent hiatal hernia and GERD following gastric bypass.
