Description:

Participants will explore the unique challenges that bariatric surgery creates in relationship to micronutrient deficiencies and will provide evidenced based strategies for identifying and treating deficiencies.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session learners will be able to:

  1. Identify vitamin and mineral deficiencies that commonly occur post-bariatric surgery.
  2. Evaluate appropriate laboratory values and nutrition focused physical findings to assess micronutrient status.
  3. Implement the 2016 ASMBS Micronutrient Guidelines and best practice recommendations for care of the bariatric patient.
