Description:
Participants will explore the unique challenges that bariatric surgery creates in relationship to micronutrient deficiencies and will provide evidenced based strategies for identifying and treating deficiencies.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session learners will be able to:
- Identify vitamin and mineral deficiencies that commonly occur post-bariatric surgery.
- Evaluate appropriate laboratory values and nutrition focused physical findings to assess micronutrient status.
- Implement the 2016 ASMBS Micronutrient Guidelines and best practice recommendations for care of the bariatric patient.
